Beauty that Mother Nature had carved out for us

JMT DAY 16 — VALLEY VIEW FROM MCCLURE MEADOW

If you haven’t been to McClure Meadow, this pretty meadow must be on your to go list. The view of Evolution Valley from here was simply stunning.

This gradually incling section of the JMT ran through the valley filled with three meadows. After Evolution Meadow, where we had camped the night before, this pretty meadow welcomed us. However, Colby Meadow, third and last meadow before a steep incline to the lake regrettably didn’t impress us.

While the monolithic Hermit (12,328 ft) brooded to our right, as if it were the gateway granite rock watching over the valley, we could see the waterfalls which was in fact Evolution Creek that was dropping over 900 feet below.

What was towering over the lake from behind were the very distinctive Mt. Mendel (13,710 ft) and the tallest peak Mt. Darwin (13,831 ft) in the area. At the far end of the long stretched ridge Mt. Haekel (13, 418 ft) jutted upward like a prickly spike in the company of Mt. Wallace (13,377 ft).

The view of the 13’ers was so impressive that we simply couldn’t move our feet. Instead, we took a lunch break there. While admiring the beauty that Mother Nature had carved out for us, I couldn’t help being obliged for the wide and shallow creek that was simply a perfect addition to the sight.
