JMT DAY 2 — SUNRISE AT LAKE BELOW DONOHUE PASS

Morning arrived at Donohue Pass and Mt. Lyell. It was a rather chilly one due to its elevation (about 10,180 feet). But then again, it was just one of many considerably-not-so-high lakes that we would hike to or camp at in the course of the following 30 days on the #JohnMuirTrail, or #JMT.

Also, it marked the first morning for me to get up early, obviously way before sunrise, so that I could be ready. And it was still dark. The crisp and cold air embraced me as soon as I stepped out of my tent. Obviously though I had no idea that I was starting this getting-up-early, staying-up-late routine for the following 30 days. Yay me.

The sunrise glow was cast on the tip of the peaks, including Mt. Lyell. And it was quite intense orange and beautiful. Such a bright and almost hypnotic glow. Can’t get enough of it. And it was the reason why I got up that early! Did I mention that the mountain is the tallest peak (13,114 feet) in Yosemite National Park? Maybe I should consider day hiking it one day.

I was delighted by the fact that the reflection of the glow in the water came through. As if somebody just stirred the large pouch of the Orange Kool Aid in it. Hope it was unsweetened. Soon, the glow faded. And it was time for me to return to my tent and get myself coffee.
