JMT DAY 23 — FIN DOME AT RAE LAKES
Fin Dome at Rae Lakes
I finally arrived at Rae Lakes after huffing and puffing throughout the entire incline in this section of the JMT. And it felt good. Because, in part, it felt like I was catching up with an old friend. I had been here before when I did the High Sierra Trail (HST). I even stood at the exact same spot where I took a shot of Fin Dome (11,693 ft) by the shore.
And the other reason why it felt good was because I made it okay even after all the incline. I was completely exhausted, but, yes, I made it. With so much weight that I was carrying this time around, it made it that much special.
I sat down my heavy pack and retrieved my camera and tripod. I knew I didn’t have much time to do timelapse or long exposure. So, I took a few shots. For old times’ sake.
Besides, I really liked Fin Dome.
I framed the shot while aligning the dome with the sun, which to me looked like some kind of bright flying object hovering over Devils Tower in Wyoming. While a school of trouts was swimming in the shallow water, the double reflections of the sunburst in the water completed the shot.
