DAY 1 — MILKY WAY OVER EDGAR AND FOUNTAIN

Milky Way over Edgar and Fountain

Night fell.

I couldn’t picture myself walking back to my car and then trudging back up here in the dark. So, I had not moved an inch since the sunset. The wind started picking up, and I didn’t bring a whole lot of layers. So, it was getting chilly.

The sky was expected to be clear of clouds, so I knew I was going to have a fantastic Milky Way sight.

I composed a shot with the same dune ridge line that led the eye to the horizon where the Milky Way would hover over Edgar and Fountain Mountains.

The light pollution coming from Las Vegas was quite bright, and part of me was just glad that this part of the desert was dark enough to see the galaxy clearly.

I wondered if this was what watching a sunrise on Mars looked like.
